The impala (Aepyceros melampus) is a medium-sized, graceful antelope of eastern and southern Africa's savannas, known for spectacular leaps of up to 3 meters high and 10 meters long when startled. A flexible feeder, it both grazes and browses depending on seasonal availability. Widespread and classified as Least Concern, it forms large seasonal herds and lives in a symbiotic relationship with oxpecker birds.
