Records
A female bottlenose dolphin born September 15, 2013, at the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium to mother Ann. She turned 10 on September 15, 2023, and the keeper staff train her daily as the aquarium's 'next ace.' Every year on her September 15 birthday, a limited number of 'fish seals' (gyo-shuin) featuring a special stamp designed after Yu are sold. In June 2026 her mother Ann gave birth to a calf (which sadly died); the calf was described as having 'a face very much like Ann and her older sister Yu,' and Yu was noted as the calf's older sister. Bottlenose dolphins are found in warm seas worldwide and are the most commonly kept dolphins in aquariums around the world; at the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium they are exhibited in the dolphin pool of the North Building.
The keeper staff continually work on her daily care and training so that Yu can enjoy herself. The Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium keeps and exhibits several bottlenose dolphin mothers and calves.
