Kahokuchoujidou Doubutsuen河北町児童動物園

The only zoo in Yamagata Prefecture, small in scale. The indoor facility Kahoku Manabi-kan Zooiku exhibits animals such as the toco toucan, the only one kept in the Tohoku region, and hedgehogs, while the outdoor area displays more than 30 kinds of animals (ponies, monkeys, rabbits, peacocks, raccoon dogs, and more) free of charge, year-round. It also serves as a Yamagata Prefecture-designated wildlife rescue center, caring for injured wild animals.

HoursThe outdoor area is open 24 hours, year-round. The bird house is open 9:30–16:00. The indoor facility Kahoku Manabi-kan Zooiku is open 9:00–17:00 and closed on the 4th Wednesday of each month (the following day if a holiday). Source
