Records

Born July 12, 2011, at Shunan's Tokuyama Zoo, she moved to Shizuoka's Nihondaira Zoo, which bills itself as the 'holy land of red pandas.' As of July 2025 she was among the oldest females of the zoo's eight red pandas, and she appears as a current resident on both the official animal profile page and the 'Red Panda Individuals and Family Tree' page.

Nihondaira Zoo has served as the command center for Japan's Styan's red panda breeding program since 1985, managing pedigrees through the studbook, and in 1989 it achieved Japan's first successful hand-rearing. Sumire adds Tokuyama-born bloodlines to that group, and the zoo's family tree page records her exact birth date as July 12, 2011. The zoo also had seven consecutive years of successful natural breeding from 2013 to 2019.
