He arrived at Nogeyama Zoo around 2013 and spent about nine years and three months there. On the morning of March 24, 2022, he was found to be unwell and taken off display; after examinations at the zoo's animal hospital, he was hospitalized and kept warm while receiving nutritional IV drips, but his death was confirmed on the morning of March 26. The necropsy found nothing particularly abnormal, and the zoo's official blog announced the cause of death as old age (15 years old). The blog post reporting his death was published on March 31, 2022, and laid out the course of his illness in chronological order.
He was the father of Ichigo, who now lives at Nogeyama Zoo; a post on the zoo's official blog looking back on the history of red pandas at Nogeyama introduces them with the words 'Kenken and Ichigo are father and daughter.' A keeper's blog also notes that while Ichigo is left-handed, Kenken favored the opposite paw.
