A male Commerson's dolphin living at Toba Aquarium and the father of Cosmo, born in June 2023 (Kai was introduced as 26 years old in the announcement of Cosmo's birth). On April 23, 2026, in a change of the exhibit pool lineup, Kai moved from the exhibit pool to the backup pool, while mother Stella and son Cosmo moved into the exhibit pool in his place. Toba Aquarium has long worked on keeping and breeding Commerson's dolphins, and Kai has sired calves with Stella as the breeding male. Commerson's dolphins, found around the southern tip of South America and the Kerguelen Islands, are among the smallest dolphins in the world, and only a very few facilities in Japan keep them.
After the April 2026 swap, the exhibit pool holds two females (Stella and Lala) and one male (Cosmo), while Kai spends his time in the backup pool.
