Records
A female Commerson's dolphin living at Toba Aquarium. She celebrated her 25th birthday on May 26, 2026 (born May 26, 2001). Somewhat nervous but gentle by nature, she has a track record of raising her calves well from past births, and in June 2023 she gave birth to her son Cosmo. On April 23, 2026, she and Cosmo moved from the backup pool to the exhibit pool, swapping places with the male Kai, who had been there until then, and she now swims happily with her daughter Lala and son Cosmo as a group of three. Toba Aquarium is one of the few facilities in Japan that keeps and breeds Commerson's dolphins, with their striking black-and-white contrast, and Stella is cherished as the mother supporting that breeding.
Commerson's dolphins are kept at only a handful of facilities in Japan, such as Toba Aquarium, and captive births are rare. Stella has carried that precious breeding, including giving birth to her son Cosmo in 2023.
