Records
He arrived at Asahiyama Zoo on June 1, 2020, and was housed with his breeding partner Pirika. Breeding succeeded in 2021, leading to Asahiyama Zoo's first polar bear birth in 40 years (the cub was later named 'Yume'). Asahiyama Zoo's official announcement notes that 'breeding with Pirika (female) succeeded at our zoo in 2021.'
In November 2022 he moved to Sapporo Maruyama Zoo for breeding. After being tried in a different breeding pairing at Maruyama, he returned to Asahiyama Zoo on February 14, 2024. Asahiyama Zoo's official website explains, 'This time he has moved to our zoo once again.'
Since returning to Asahiyama Zoo he has continued to be housed with Pirika, living together as a breeding pair mainly during the winter months.
He was 19 years old at the time of his arrival, and Asahiyama Zoo staff explained on the official website that they handled his transfer with care given the long-distance move at an advanced age. Having gone back and forth between Asahiyama Zoo and Maruyama Zoo, he has been a linchpin of the breeding plan within Hokkaido.
