Records

Born January 2, 2012, to mother Tsubaki. She turned 14 on January 2, 2026, and has a calm relationship with her tankmate Biju.

Decorations were prepared for her birthday, but Gumi made a beeline for the Japanese smelt (wakasagi) rather than the decorations, showing just how much she cares about food. She shared the numerals on her birthday cake amicably with Biju.

She and Biju have a good relationship, snuggling and playing together, and the keeper staff describe her as calm. She lives in Kaiyukan's 'Japan Forest' area. Her mother Tsubaki died on October 30, 2025, at 20 years and 2 months, and Gumi is one of the offspring Tsubaki left behind.

Asian small-clawed otter husbandry at Kaiyukan is carried on across generations by multiple animals, with the aim of breeding and pedigree management.
