Born August 1, 2005. Kept at Kaiyukan for many years, she celebrated her 20th birthday on August 1, 2025. Though she had experienced seizures in the past due to her age, she lived on under the care of the keeper staff.
Unlike her high-strung brother, she was easygoing enough to eat her weaning food with gusto and without hesitation, and she was highly athletic and quick on her feet. She was known as a 'tough mama' with strong maternal instincts, carrying several pups at once.
In addition to Shuro and her three siblings born in 2009, she raised several other pups, including Gobo, Rock, and Gumi. She also took part in special exhibits and was loaned to Nifrel. Tsubaki's life could be called the very history of Asian small-clawed otter breeding at Kaiyukan.
She died on the morning of October 30, 2025, at 20 years and 2 months old.
