Born February 1, 2021, as one of three sisters to father Raja and mother Mahalo. Based on more than 4,000 entries from across Japan, she was named 'Himari' on May 26, 2021. As the 'most energetic' of the three sisters, her name evokes the brightness and hope of a sunny spot or the sun itself, carrying the wish that she would become a source of hope for others.
All three sisters were weaned after passing three months of age and grew up eating rainbow trout and Japanese smelt (wakasagi). Mahalo's care was said to be even-handed among the three, which contributed to their healthy development.
As part of the cooperative husbandry and breeding program for Asian small-clawed otters run jointly by Japan's aquariums and zoos, she returned temporarily from Shinagawa Aquarium to Sunshine Aquarium on May 26, 2026, and was then transferred to Tobu Zoo on June 26, 2026.
