Records
Born around 10:30 a.m. on May 27, 2024, as one of three brothers to father Raja and mother Mahalo. Mahalo began showing signs of labor around 9:00 a.m., and Raja was also seen holding the pups. The parents cared for the pups together, licking their bodies to encourage them to relieve themselves, and Raja carried in straw for nesting material that Mahalo arranged in the nest. A health check at 9 days old found that all three were male.
In a first for the aquarium, the three brothers' names were chosen by first narrowing six staff-proposed candidates to three by online vote, then on September 16, 2024, letting the otters themselves pick slips of paper from a fortune-drawing-style display, which settled on 'Koko,' 'Nattsu,' and 'Miruku.' The names refer to the coconut palms that grow in the species' native habitat.
On March 30, 2025, Miruku died at Sunshine Aquarium at 10 months old. The cause of death was announced as under investigation.
