Records

Born April 21, 2008, at Adventure World to father Kan and mother Flora. She entered Toba Aquarium on March 17, 2021, and was housed with the resident Mei, making it a two-otter setup. Her history is introduced on Toba Aquarium's special website 'Rakkopedia.'

In January 2025 a fan guide article was published explaining how to tell her apart from Mei and describing her features, and she is cherished alongside Mei as one of Toba Aquarium's signature animals. At the three daily feeding times (9:40 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 4:10 p.m.), visitors love watching her eat with shells resting on her belly.

Toba Aquarium is now the only facility in Japan that continues to keep sea otters, and Kira and Mei are featured in various media as the sea otters 'you can only meet here in Japan' because of their rarity. The aquarium has more than 40 years of sea otter husbandry experience and has built up knowledge on breeding and elderly care.
