Mishima Shiritsu Kouen Rakujuen三島市立公園楽寿園

A park of about 78,000 square meters. It was built in 1890 (Meiji 23) as a villa for Prince Komatsu Akihito and has been run by the City of Mishima since 1952 (Showa 27). It contains Kohama Pond, a national natural monument and place of scenic beauty; Rakujukan, a Kyoto-style raised-floor sukiya building; and the Mishima lava flow from a Mount Fuji eruption about 10,000 years ago. It also has an animal plaza with red pandas, capybaras, and alpacas, a rides plaza, and a local history museum.

Access
A 3-minute walk from the south exit of JR Mishima Station or Mishima Station on the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line to the Rakujuen station-front entrance.

Access

A 3-minute walk from the south exit of JR Mishima Station or Mishima Station on the Izuhakone Railway Sunzu Line to the Rakujuen station-front entrance. By car, from the Numazu IC on the Tomei Expressway, take the Izu Jukan Expressway to the Mishima-Tsukahara IC, then Route 1. The park's parking lot costs ¥200 for up to 2 hours, then ¥50 per 30 minutes (cash only). Source

How long does it take to walk around the park?
You can go around in about 30 minutes, but an hour lets you take your time. Source
Why is Kohama Pond sometimes dry?
The water level changes with the amount of spring water from Mount Fuji; it usually fills in summer and dries up in winter. Source
Can I visit Rakujukan at any time?
It is not open for self-guided viewing; you need to join one of the six guided tours held each day. Source
