Records
A female beluga born July 1, 2024, at Shimane Aquarium AQUAS. Her mother was Arya, who had been kept since the aquarium opened, but Arya died suddenly of mastitis on July 11, ten days after giving birth, so Rirya was hand-reared, only the second such case in Japan. She was named 'Rirya' from 979 entries, and as of February 24, 2026, she measured 222 cm and weighed 180 kg. On March 3, 2026, she moved with Alan from the breeding pool in the annex to the holding pool in the main building. Described as affectionate and clingy, she is working toward her performance debut through training and life alongside the older belugas.
The two calves' names were chosen in 2024 from 979 entries, with the female named Rirya and the male Alan. Her mother Arya had been kept at AQUAS since 1999 and was a popular beluga, the first to perform the 'bubble ring.'
