Records
A female finless porpoise born May 15, 2013, at Miyajima Aquarium (Miyajimarine). Her mother is Niko of Miyajima and her father Go, who was on loan from Toba Aquarium; she was moved to Toba Aquarium for breeding at about 4 years old. She turned 13 on May 15, 2026, and now swims at a leisurely pace with the males as the only female in Toba Aquarium's exhibit pool. She is described as a very lively porpoise who gobbles her food at feeding time and communicates with her keepers by showing off her special trick of spouting water from her mouth. Toba Aquarium has kept finless porpoises since 1963 and marked its 60th anniversary of doing so in 2023, making it one of the facilities with the longest history of finless porpoise husbandry.
Miyajima Aquarium was the first facility in the world to achieve a third-generation finless porpoise birth in captivity, in 1995, and Ichigo is part of that history of breeding across aquariums.
