One of twins born at Sapporo Maruyama Zoo to father Denali and mother Lara. The other twin, 'Maruru,' was loaned to Kumamoto Zoo and Botanical Gardens (and later Kushiro Zoo), while Pororo was loaned to Tokushima Zoo on March 3, 2014, both under breeding loans. The Tokushima Shimbun gave her age as 8 as of 2021.
She is exhibited as the only polar bear at Tokushima Zoo, and the free loan period from Maruyama Zoo has been extended repeatedly. She is described as 2.1 meters long and weighing 230 kilograms. In February 2026 there was a plan to bring in the male Gogo from Yokohama Zoological Gardens Zoorasia, but it fell through when Gogo died under anesthesia while being prepared for the move.
At Tokushima Zoo she is featured as a popular animal in the cold-climate zone alongside timber wolves and other species. Because she is on free loan from Maruyama Zoo, extensions of the loan period regularly make the news, with the local paper reporting on her continued stay under headlines like 'You can still see Pororo the polar bear.'
