Records
Born November 20, 1994, at Beppu Rakutenchi Zoo, she came to Sapporo Maruyama Zoo on May 9, 1996. With Denali she produced eight cubs in six litters, making her known as the mother bear with the most breeding success in Japan. Her cubs include Pirika, Pororo, Maruru, and Rira.
In October 2025, she was observed scratching around her vulva with her front paws and rubbing it against walls, along with bleeding, and medication was started for a suspected bacterial infection of the urogenital tract. An examination under anesthesia on October 28 found myiasis at the inflamed site, which was removed, and also revealed severe periodontal disease in several molars, prompting consideration of a dental treatment plan.
As an elderly bear past 30, from June 11, 2026, her exhibit was moved to the Polar Bear House for about two months, with alternating display with her daughter Rira. The change was explained as a review of exhibit space from an animal welfare standpoint.
