Records

Born around 6:30 p.m. on June 28, 2022, as one of three male triplets to mother Kiwa and father Asahi. Names were solicited from October 17 to 31, drawing 1,997 entries in all: 103 postcards and 1,894 online. The names 'Soboro,' 'Okaka,' and 'Konbu' were chosen from a proposal by an 11-year-old girl, who hoped they would grow up healthy with big appetites and wanted names from familiar Japanese rice-ball fillings so that people would feel close to them. They are still on view in the Asian small-clawed otter tank in the L Zone 'Water Corridor.'

Public viewing began on July 15, 2022, when the three weighed 256 g, 257 g, and 269 g respectively.

Okaka is curious and a hearty eater, with a lot of pink on the tip of his nose. A keeper's diary entry from December 2024 describes him as the big-bodied older brother.
