Records
The male Ren was born on May 23, 2023, and the female Tsukushi the next day, May 24, to mother Kiwa and father Asahi. Ren's name comes from 'suiren' (water lily), an association with his father's name Asahi (morning sun), while Tsukushi's expresses the wish that she would grow up 'sukusuku' (quickly and healthily). Both were hand-reared by keeper staff. On November 1, 2023, their display, which had been suspended for tank maintenance, resumed in the L Zone 'Water Corridor.'
Ren has a wide head and a brownish coat. A keeper's diary entry from December 2024 described him as the smallest of the three but full of energy, racing around with his big brother Okaka.
His coat color contrasts with Tsukushi's, making the two easy to tell apart, and visitors are invited to enjoy spotting the differences between the siblings.
