Ubeshitokiwa Doubutsuen宇部市ときわ動物園

A zoo known for exhibits that recreate the natural habitats of wild animals. It is made up of five zones: the Asian Forest Zone, the Central and South American Waterside Zone, the African Hills and Madagascar Zone, the Yamaguchi-Ube Nature Zone, and the Familiar Animals Corner. It uses exhibit methods that are firsts in Japan, such as "Japan's largest gibbon exhibit, using water moats instead of cages or fences."

    Japan's first and largest gibbon exhibit using water moats instead of cages or fences. A mixed exhibit of bonnet macaques and Asian small-clawed otters is another feature. Source

Access

About a 20-minute walk from Tokiwa Station on the JR Ube Line. From the Ube-Shinkawa Station area, take the Hagiwara Line or Hagiwara Loop Line bus to the "Tokiwa Koen" stop; several other routes are also available. From the Shin-Yamaguchi Station area, take the Shin-Yamaguchi Line bus to "Tokiwa Koen Iriguchi." Six parking lots, open 24 hours (standard cars: free for the first 15 minutes, ¥200 for up to 2 hours, ¥500 for up to 24 hours). Source
