Antwerp Zoo (Zoo Antwerpen) opened in 1843 in Antwerp, Belgium, making it the country's oldest zoo and one of the oldest in the world. Set on about 10.5 hectares next to Antwerpen-Centraal railway station, it keeps roughly 5,000 animals across some 950 species and is known for historic structures such as its 1856 Egyptian temple. It was also the first zoo in the world to keep okapis, in 1918.
