Spread over roughly 824,000 m², it houses more than 3,200 animals across 444 species, making it the largest zoo in Brazil, a status recognized by the Guinness Book since 1994. It is noted for conservation and recovery programs for endangered native species such as lion tamarins and Lear's macaws.
