Zoo Basel, affectionately known as Zolli, is Switzerland's oldest zoo, opened on 3 July 1874 in Basel. Spanning about 13 hectares, it housed 11,393 animals across 602 species as of the end of 2024 and drew roughly 1.23 million visitors that year. It is renowned for achieving the first Indian rhinoceros birth in a zoo and the first gorilla born in Europe (Goma, 1959), and is regarded as one of the world's leading zoos.
