The Wilhelma is a state-owned zoological-botanical garden in Stuttgart, southwestern Germany, opened as a botanical garden in 1919 and adding animal exhibits from 1951. Its roughly 30-hectare grounds hold around 1,200 species and about 11,500 animals, centered on a Moorish-Revival palace that draws more than two million visitors a year. Its animal collection is regarded as the second largest in Germany after the Berlin Zoo.
