ArtisARTIS Amsterdam Royal Zoo

Artis (Natura Artis Magistra), opened in 1838 in Amsterdam's Plantage district, is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest still operating in the world. It keeps around 900 species and combines the zoo with an 1882 aquarium (one of the oldest surviving aquariums in the world), a planetarium, a botanical garden, and Micropia, the world's first museum devoted to microbes. In 2024 it drew about 1.27 million visitors.
