The Dallas World Aquarium, in downtown Dallas, Texas, opened on October 18, 1992 inside a converted 1924 warehouse. It features a recreated Orinoco rainforest and a 400,000-gallon tunnel tank of sharks and stingrays in its Mundo Maya wing, and is known as the only facility in the United States to publicly display three-toed sloths. An accredited AZA member and a WAZA member, it participates in cooperative breeding programs for threatened species.
