Lincoln Park Zoo, set within Chicago's Lincoln Park, was founded in 1868 and is one of the oldest zoos in the United States. Across about 14 hectares (35 acres) it cares for roughly 1,100 animals of some 200 species, with signature exhibits such as the Regenstein Center for African Apes and Regenstein African Journey. As one of the few free-admission zoos in the country, it welcomes more than three million visitors each year.
