Nuremberg Zoo (Tiergarten Nürnberg) lies in the forest on the edge of Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany; it opened in 1912 and moved to its present Schmausenbuck site in 1939. Its roughly 65-hectare grounds hold about 330 species and more than 4,000 animals and draw over a million visitors a year. It is known as a landscape zoo built into natural rock and woodland, featuring an open-air dolphin lagoon and a manatee house.
